Using Animation and Music to Teach Science and Entomology

In 2013, Cable Hardin, an assistant professor at South Dakota State University, was part of a team that created animated videos of bed bugs in order to educate the public — including this one of a well-traveled bed bug.

And earlier this year, Anthony Dimeglio, a graduate student at Virginia Tech, was involved in a project with middle school students who sang a song called “The Soil is Alive.”

Both Anthony and Cable attended Entomology 2015 in Minneapolis and were part of a symposium called “Using Animation and Music to Communicate Science.” In the following video, which was made by entomology graduate students Jeremy Hemberger and Michael Falk, both of them talk about their projects and their experiences.
