Deer tick (Ixodes scapularis)

The blacklegged tick (Ixodes scapularis), also known as the deer tick, is the primary vector of Lyme disease. A new species of bacteria that causes Lyme disease has been found to transmit via a tick bite in roughly the same amount of time as the primary bacterial pathogen that causes Lyme disease.
