Mueckenatlas submission maps
Over a four-year period, citizens in Germany collected and submitted more than 29,000 mosquitoes as part of the “Mueckenatlas” (Mosquito Atlas) project. Researchers managing the project report it “appears to be an efficient alternative to routine active mosquito surveillance,” and “regarding invasive species, it can constitute a valuable early warning system to trigger and help design active monitoring schemes.” (Image originally published in Walther et al., Journal of Medical Entomology, 2017)
