macrotermes gilvus dispersal maps
In a study of genetic markers in populations of the subterranean termite Macrotermes gilvus across Southeast Asia, researchers at Universiti Sains Malaysia found evidence for a dispersal corridor from Indochina to Java that existed between 1.09 million and 420,000 years ago (left) and a later dispersal event between 870,000 and 340,000 years ago in which the termites spread east to the Philippines (right).
