screwworm outbreak response – ground release chamber locations
Florida’s Lower Keys was the focus of the sterile fly release (in zone bordered in orange) in response to the screwworm fly outbreak in 2016. A total of 30 ground release chambers (noted with orange symbols) were placed throughout the islands. Four chambers were placed in Marathon (bordered in blue) as a preventive effort to reduce the chance that the outbreak would spread toward the Florida mainland.
