Karen A. Walker, Ph.D., entomologist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, analyzed employment patterns in entomology jobs in academia and the federal government to highlight the gender gap that exists. She says she hopes the research “starts the conversation on gender equity” and benefits today’s grad students and early career professionals in entomology. Walker presented an early look at her analysis in a poster at Entomology 2017. (Photo credit: Karen A. Walker, Ph.D.)
