“Before life—ie., kids—devoured our free time, [my wife] Sarah and I used to take photography trips,” says Michael Skvarla, Ph.D., extension educator and the director of the Insect Identification Laboratory at Penn State University. “Inevitably, I’d find an insect to photograph, she’d keep walking, and when she turned around I’d be hunched over in the leaf litter.”
