In a new study published in December 2019, antimicrobial peptides were isolated from larval black soldier flies (Hermetia illucens) that had been injected with Escherichia colibacteria. Four peptides were discovered that inhibit the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, showing that black soldier flies have promise as a source of antimicrobial agents that can be used to prevent disease.
