Gall wasps and other wasps in the superfamily Cynipoidea have proven extremely difficult to identify, but a new, well-illustrated key is now available to make the task much easier. Entomologist Matthew Buffington, Ph.D., of the Systematic Entomology Laboratory at the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service (shown here) and colleagues Mattias Forshage, Ph.D., of the Swedish Royal Museum of Natural History and Johan Liljeblad, Ph.D., of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences spent nearly a decade building the key, which was just published in the journal Insect Systematics and Diversity.
