Ophiogomphus howei, female

The dragonfly species Ophiogomphus howei has been known to populate forest environments that are relatively undisturbed, with little agriculture. A new population found along the Grand River in southern Michigan, however, breaks this pattern, as the river system is influenced by urban areas nearby. (Photo by David A. Marvin)
