Lari-Leuco container

Lari-Leuco container

The Lari-Leuco container is designed to collect and separate both predator beetles of the genus Laricobius and predatory silver flies of the genus Leucopis from boughs of hemlock trees infested by the hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae). Hemlock boughs are placed within the primary container (3), and the Laricobius beetle larvae are collected in the bottom jar (1) when they drop from the foliage while Leucopis silver fly adults are collected in the top jar (8) when they rise from the foliage. (Inset B shows the original iteration of the container design, which lacked a funnel [7].) (Image originally published in Mayfield et al 2021, Journal of Economic Entomology)
