Verbena 'Meteor Shower' and Verbena Lascar 'Mango Orange'

In a new study on protocols for measuring the “pollinator friendliness” of flower cultivars, researchers found significant differences in pollinator activity between closely related cultivars of flowers. For example, Verbena ‘Meteor Shower’ (left) received many of bee and butterfly visitors, while Verbena Lascar ‘Mango Orange’ (right) received very few visitors. (Photos by Emily Erickson, Ph.D.)
