Scott O’Neal, Ph.D., on a family bug hunt

Scott O'Neal, Ph.D., holds a yellow, black, and blue butterfly between thumb and index finger of his right hand while his daughter looks on closely. Both are in front of a flower garden.

Scott O’Neal, Ph.D., says his interest in entomology began while partipating in 4-H as a child. Today, he shares his love of insects with his own children. “We hunt for cool insects together when we go on family hikes or even when we play in the backyard, and we recently adopted a jumping spider that we found in our house,” he says. Here, O’Neal and his daughter examine a butterfly.
