Scott O’Neal, Ph.D., on a family bug hunt

Scott O'Neal, Ph.D., and his son and daughter are viewed from behind while peering into a burrow amid ferns and greenery at the side of a trail.

Scott O’Neal, Ph.D., says his interest in entomology began while partipating in 4-H as a child. Today, he shares his love of insects with his own children. “We hunt for cool insects together when we go on family hikes or even when we play in the backyard, and we recently adopted a jumping spider that we found in our house,” he says. Here, O’Neal and his children examine a large spider lurking along the side of a hiking trail.
