three mealybug adult females

Closeup of three mealybugs viewed from above on a white background. All three are oval in shape, covered in a white, waxy fuzz. The specimen at left is uniform in appearance except for two small dark appendanges protrouding from the top. The middle specimen is spiky around its edges. The right specimen is larger and has several long straight hairs extending outward in all directions.

Nipaecoccus viridis (left), Nipaecoccus nipae (middle), and Ferrisia virgata (right) are examples of common mealybug species in Florida. Adult females shown here. (Image courtesy of Muhammad Z. Ahmed, Ph.D.)
