Brachyelatus flavicornis wasp

The wasp species Brachyelatus flavicornis can be found in modern-day Australia and displays a brilliant blue and green metallic body. A new study published in December 2019 in Insect Systematics and Diversity details the discovery of B. flavicornis‘ ancient ancestors, wasp specimens found in amber dating from 34–55 million years ago and identified as the first fossil specimens from Brachyelatus or even the chalcid wasp subfamily Chrysolampinae.
