For a study on Asian longhorned ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis), Rebecca Butler, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee, collected nymphal ticks with a drag cloth and then used live insect forceps to place them into vials filled with sand.
