fall armyworm adult - Spodoptera frugiperda

The moth Spodoptera frugiperda earns its common name, fall armyworm, from its larval form, in which it can feed on more than 80 plant species. However, its preferred hosts are grasses, ranging from crops like corn and sorghum to turfgrasses such as Bermuda grass or St. Augustinegrass. (Photo credit: Matt Bertone, Ph.D.)
