Florida harvester ants (Pogonomyrmex badius)

Florida harvester ants (Pogonomyrmex badius) are among several native ant species found in sea turtle nests examined by researchers on Georgia’s barrier islands. Their study found that ant activity didn’t seem to disrupt sea turtle hatching, but it did correlate with lower emergence success, especially in nests close to dune vegetation.
