Lauren Diepenbrock, Ph.D., says she learned how to drive a manual transmission and how to calibrate a tractor-mounted sprayer during the first few weeks of her postdoctoral position, working with berry growers on management of the invasive spotted-wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii).
