shipping containers
Researchers in New Zealand and the United States have conducted experiments to expose brown marmorated stink bugs (Halyomorpha halys) to a lab simulation of the conditions inside shipping containers aboard cargo ships on the voyage from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. Their goal is to identify volatile compounds emitted by the pests that port inspectors armed with electronic sniffing devices can use to detect them. (Photo credit: Rob Morrison, Ph.D.)
