Kissing bug located in between panels of dog house
One kissing bug was captured near a dog kennel and was found the next day in a small slit where the top and bottom of the plastic kennel fit together. “This would have been a very difficult location to find without the use of radio telemetry,” says Gabriel Hamer, Ph.D. In the left image, the circle inset is the connection of the two shelves of the plastic dog
house where the kissing bug’s cryptic habitat was located. The image at right shows the tagged female kissing bug discovered in the cryptic hiding location on a vertical surface inside the dog kennel. (Images originally published in Hamer et al 2018, Journal of Medical Entomology)
