A new study published in January in the Annals of the Entomological Society of America explores how the primary methods termites use to manage the corpses of their fallen colony-mates varies by caste. To study this behavior, researchers at the University of Kentucky, including Jing Yang, Ph.D. (left), visiting associate professor from the Shanxi Agricultural University in China, and Ph.D. students Austin Merchant (middle) and Jizhe Shi (right) collected termites at Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky.
